USNCCM-11 Shortcourses
The following shortcourses will be held on Sunday, July 24, 2011, at the Hilton Minneapolis. To register for a shortcourse, go to the Congress online registration. The cost of each shortcourse is $250.00. Other shortcourses may be added; we encourage you to check back at a later date.
1. Quadrilateral and Hexahedral Mesh Generation: Theory and Application - Instructors: Steven J. Owen and Matthew L. Staten (Sandia National Laboratories)
2. Tutorial on Atomistic Simulations Using Standardized Interatomic Potentials - Instructors: Ellad B. Tadmor and Ryan S. Elliott (University of Minnesota)
3. Uncertainty Quantification in Mechanics: Theoretical and Computational Aspects - Instructors: Roger Ghanem (University of Southern California) and Christian Soize (Universite Paris-Est)
4. Goal-Oriented Methods: Error Estimation, Adaptive Algorithms, Multiscale Modeling - Instructors: Serge Prudhomme (University of Texas at Austin) and Kris van der Zee (Eindhoven University of Technology)
5. Discontinuous Petrov-Galerkin (DPG) Method with Optimal Test Functions - Instructor: Leszek Demkowicz (University of Texas at Austin)
General information about USNCCM-11 shortcourses
- Pre-congress short courses will be held on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at the conference hotel.
- If the pre-congress short courses are over-subscribed, then the congress organizers will consider holding post-congress short courses on Friday, July 29, 2011.
- All short courses may be scheduled between 8:30 AM and 4:30 PM. Short course materials are expected to be for 5-6 hours duration.
- The short course fee will include a continental breakfast, box lunches and an afternoon snack. Breakfast will be held from 8:30-9:00 AM, lunch from 12:00-1:00 PM and an afternoon snack from 3:00-3:30 PM.
- The short course rate for registered participants is assessed at $250.
- All short course organizers are required to submit a detailed course outline and syllabus as soon as your short course is accepted.
- Audiovisual equipment and appropriate classroom settings will be provided.
- Preparing and distributing the course material will be the responsibility of the course organizers.
- The short course will be cancelled if enrollment is insufficient by June 15, 2011. Enrollment is considered insufficient if the projected revenue will be less than the projected expenses.
